Ramen Unari: Must-Try Seafood Tonkotsu Ramen in Fukuoka

Ramen Unari

In Fukuoka, the kingdom of tonkotsu (pork bone) ramen, there are countless variations of this beloved dish.

From rich and creamy to light and delicate, pure pork bone broth to chicken-blended versions, and even spicy red pepper-infused styles—the possibilities are endless.

Each ramen shop has its own unique twist, making it nearly impossible to categorize them all.

Today, I want to introduce a popular ramen spot that stands out with its unique blend of pork bone and seafood broth: Ramen Unari.

This double broth, combining the umami of seafood with the creaminess of pork bone, is seriously delicious. Highly recommended!

Visiting Ramen Unari’s First Location in Kiyokawa

Ramen Unari has two locations: one in Kiyokawa, just south of Tenjin, and another in Nakasu.

[Update] When I first wrote this article in 2015, there were only two locations. As of 2024, Ramen Unari has expanded significantly, with branches in Tenjin, Fukuoka Airport, and other areas.

For this visit, I went to the original Kiyokawa location. Look for the striking red paper lantern at the entrance.

Inside, the shop features two rows of counter seating.

The walls are decorated with autographs from famous visitors.

“NO RAMEN NO LIFE”—what a great motto.

Rich and Flavorful Double Broth – Also Great as a Rice Bowl

Here it is—seafood tonkotsu ramen for just ¥700! It looks absolutely mouthwatering.

I also ordered the Unari Don, a rice bowl that caught my attention on the side menu.

Low-carb diet? What’s that?

The broth is an incredible combination of seafood dashi and the deep, creamy richness of pork bone.

The flavor is out of this world—absolutely amazing.

Time to enjoy it with the thin noodles—let’s dig in!

The slightly grilled chashu adds a wonderful smoky aroma and an extra layer of flavor.

Since the broth has seafood dashi, it’s perfect for pouring over rice.

I poured some over the Unari Don, which features finely chopped grilled chashu.

This is next-level deliciousness.

Final Thoughts

Ramen Unari is one of the best ramen shops in Fukuoka—definitely worth a visit!

I also heard that the Nakasu branch serves an Italian-inspired dish called “Ramen Genova.”

That sounds interesting—I’ll have to try it next time!
